Biography

Born and raised into a musical background in Liverpool, Ian performed in front of an audience for the first time at the age of seven, with his father Albert Lindsay, an accomplished singer, Jazz pianist & songwriter.

At the age of eleven, he became a treble with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra choir. Subsequent Philharmonic Hall concerts were broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 including: Carl Orff's 'Carmina Burana’ and Benjamin Britten's 'Spring Symphony'.

Studied music and drama in Liverpool.

Performed / wrote / produced songs around the Liverpool music circuit 1986-1996.

During this period, in 1993 his own band 'The Green Room’ (formally The Herbs) were voted top live original act by The Liverpool Institute for the Performing Arts (L.I.P.A) and represented England in the Keele Rock festival in Germany. The band were finalists in the 'Northern Songwriter Of The Year awards' in the same year and again in 1994.

Between June and September 1994 as an actor and musician, Ian co-starred in the Bill Kenwright hit stage show "Imagine - The John Lennon story" at the Liverpool Playhouse Theatre, portraying Paul McCartney:
"His angelic tones and precise harmonies capture the essence of a youthful Paul McCartney" - The Stage 1994.

Ian again portrayed Sir Paul McCartney the following year in the Fred Lawless stage production of the musical comedy "Best" (about The Beatles former drummer) at the Liverpool Everyman Theatre and Trinity College, Dublin:

With acclaimed theatre shows under his belt and utilising his experiences over the last 21 years, he wrote, scored, directed and starred in his own touring stage musical: "The Moptops".

To date he has made appearances on TV's "The Bill", "Brookside" and in the film "Elizabeth". In between his session recording, writing and production work for other artists, several performances were made on BBC, Sky, Cable, CNN and in Japan.


As well as performing his own solo live SHOWS he has also:

made over 50 appearances with Mersey Beat tribute The Shakers, singing and playing bass & guitar at The Cavern Club Liverpool, Madrid, the USA, in 60’s music festivals across the UK and on TV

Fronted, sang and played bass and lead guitar with The Silver Searchers, a tribute to the 'Swinging Sixties' and British Invasion era. In its twenty year existence, the band has performed across the UK at many of the major 60’s music festivals and Butlins, Warners etc. The band has recently returned from a tour of corporate events in France.

In 2013 Ian founded the independent record label Affective Records, together with fellow writer and producer Dave Laing.

He's spent several years studying the classic production techniques found at the E.M.I ABBEY ROAD,  MOTOWN &  STAX recording studios.
